All rights reserved. Executive Summary The Pain & Gain Report is a quarterly analysis of properties which were resold over the quarter. It compares the most recent sale price to the previous sale price in order to determine whether the property sold at a gross profit or gross loss. It provides a proxy for the performance of each housing market and highlights the magnitude of profit or loss the typical seller of a home makes in those regions analysed. This report covers those resales made in the first quarter of 2017. Over the March 2017 quarter 3.7% of all properties resold at a loss. A total of $3.8b profit was realised from gain-making resales in Q1 2017. $1.6b of this was from Auckland sales. 7.9% of all properties sold at a loss in Christchurch – a further increase on the prior month.
